Honestly, I would be heartbroken if the #Habs traded Kotkaniemi. I would lose a huge amount of trust in the leadership.

Why? Simple. After the playoffs we were all excited about Suzuki AND KK. We were told the team was ready to progress based on the performance of BOTH...
of them. We attracted new players who liked what they saw from KK and Suzuki in the playoff bubble. They were both called untouchable.

So if KK gets traded away and handed over to a coach like Torts, it will seem like the leadership was lying all along, hoping to...
...use promising young players as trade fodder and only pretending to have faith in their development. I won't assume Suzuki or Romanov is safe either--the grass is always greener if some other player who is a little ahead career-wise loudly demands a trade to MTL and...
...makes that 25th Cup seem like a certainty.

I know the saying that you root for the logo on the front of the jersey, not the name on the back. Some trades are going to sting no matter what the situation.

But it would be very hard to stay loyal to a team...
...if the leadership shows itself to be capable of outright lying and deception to players and fans alike, and a Kotkaniemi trade would be a perfect example of that. This isn't a situation where after years of struggle and tension a player has shown he no longer...
...works with the organization or vice versa; this would be a situation where one of the two players most responsible for the rising hope and excitement of the team and fans, a "centerpiece" of the rebuild, so to speak, gets thrown aside for a shiny new toy.

So I hope it...
... doesn't happen, rumors are just rumors, Bergevin and co. are honest in their hopes for this team, and this teapot tempest will simmer down soon. My loyalty to a team that emphasizes character would take a big hit if it turns out they were lying about their faith in the kids.
