Just as YouTube disrupted media of the 2000's, TikTok is disrupting media of the 2020's (including YouTube).

By making it easy to remix existing content, TikTok reduces friction to create new content.

I call this "Open Source Content" and I think it's game-changing.

More 👇
Open Source content breaks out individual components of a piece of content and uses them as low-friction entry points for viewers to create new content.

It may be helpful to think of traditional content as 2d and Open Source Content as 3d.
Flat, regular, content is a single file and single stream. Think of watching a YouTube video -- available in one format and one format only.

Curious what song or special effect was used in the video? Want to re-use that in your own video? You're out of luck. High friction.
3d, "Open Source", content is presented in multiple files and multiple streams. Think of watching a TikTok video -- many components of the video are shown in plain sight.

Curious what song or special effect was used? It's there. Want to use it? Two taps. Low friction.
Open Source Content represents an incredible opportunity for UGC platforms to turn viewers into creators, breaking the standard "90-9-1" lurker-commenter-creator ratio.
