My 5 favorite hip-hop albums of all time

A thread:
5. Jay- Z- Reasonable Doubt
Jay-Z established himself as one of the hottest young hip hop artists with his great debut, Reasonable Doubt. As the album brings amazing hooks and themes of material obsession through the pinnacle of coke rap; Jay brags about the high lifestyle of a
big rapper , and brings us the greatest gangster rap album of all time.

Favorite: Politics as usual
4. Kendrick Lamar- To Pimp A Butterfly
In one of the boldest artistic statements of the century, Kendrick Lamar brings jazz-influenced rap to new levels by creating arguably the greatest hip hop album to exist. As he tackles issues such as racial injustice, politics, depression,
and self confidence Kendrick manages to fit a million years of knowledge and wisdom into a strongly engaging, revolutionary album. Not much to be said that hasn’t already been said.

3. Igor
After giving his style a complete 180 with Flower Boy, Tyler, the creator reaches new, polarizing heights with his album Igor. Igor follows the story of a broken love triangle involving Tyler, a boy, and a girl. Themes of jealousy and anger arise throughout the album
through the use of widely experimental hip hop and darker forms of production. Tyler brings together this album and shows us this completely new side of himself in total vulnerability.

Favorite: I THINK
2. Kanye West- Ye
Ye is by far Kanye’s most personal, intimate album and has helped me get through so much in life. Kanye talks with melodic, sad deliveries and lyrics throughout the project; where he takes on lots of the issues surrounding him in media post-yeezus era.
As Kanye decides to settle in life with a family to call his own he struggles with pressure from the media, struggles within his marriage, and struggles with dark mental health problems. He pours his heart out on this record, and it becomes a polar opposite when
tcompared to his album, My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy. After almost a decade of time Kanye’s triumph and celebration of his own self he had presenced a dark, gloomy world filled with flaws. Musical artistry showing its expression in a beautiful way.

Favorite: Violent Crimes
1. Kendrick Lamar- Section. 80
Kendrick’s most underrated piece of work and a stunning debut, S80 is a masterpiece. Throughout the album the young kendrick takes on issues very advanced for a rapper just starting off. He tackles problems that persisted throughout the 80s such as
Drug Abuse, prostitution, sexual assault, political controversy and connects these dark themes to a strong culture created by hip hop and his own life. Growing up in the 80s has proven to be a large source of issues throughout Kendrick’s life and he assessed how it affected so
many others on this record. Kendrick displays strong lyrical substance and arguably his best rapping ability with songs like Rigamortus and the tragic occurrences of Keisha’s and Tammy’s songs.
I could honestly talk about this album for hours but let me not bore anyone.

Favorite: Keisha’s song
