I define myself as being from the right since I don’t hold equality of conditions is synonymous with justice. I’m for the practical amelioration of poverty, but combating poverty doesn’t mean ending advancement by merit of effort. Additionally the causes of poverty can’t be (1/9)
deduced by a simple analysis of blaming one causation point: oppression. All disparities between racial, sexual, etc., identities is not proof of racism, sexism, etc. One can see the disingenuous of this argument by the fact that negative disparities for whatever is (2/9)
considered the major oppression party are never mentioned as caused by the same forces, or they’re lumped into some questionable super framework (“toxic masculinity” - males die younger than females).

Currently the left is in a period of religious fanaticism regarding (3/9)
its notion of justice (social justice) that not only demands equality of conditions but also does it by comparing collective identities to other collective identities. It’s a fundamental attack on individualism, especially the individualism of merit by effort. Wokeness is (4/9)
a cult, based on a conspiracy theory (all disparities are caused by oppression), that is undermining the classical liberalism of the primacy of the individual as the moral agent, who should be judged by the content of their character.

Meanwhile a lot of the political (5/9)
right has itself embraced by cultish conspiracy mindset that’s entirety reactive & visceral to all leftism. This mindset has anointed Trump as the personification of “owning the libs”, but has no coherent ideology outside of this, except for a nationalistic love without (6/9)
qualifications. But since America is a nation founded on ideas — so well expressed in the Declaration— & not the primacy of its culture this leads to a clash between ideas of the founding & the vague drift of the current rightist cultural notions. It’s incoherent like Trump (7/9)
is incoherent.

Both cults, no doubt, have grown from some valid insecurities, but now the mindsets behind them have grown to be problems themselves causing vastly more insecurities. We need to get back to rational civil discourse & leave the cult mindsets behind. How? A (8/9)
question for another day. Meanwhile try to practice civility as much as possible in this insane conspiracy minded times.
