Right. As of this minute I’m on holiday for 10 days (+the rest of today)
To celebrate: 1 like = 1 thing that’s not doing chess that could improve your chess training.
Here’s one for free: read @davidllada ‘s The Thinkers and be inspired.

Watch the Star Trek opening credits. Remind yourself that chess improvement is a multi-year mission. Think about what that means for you what you need to do *today*.

Consider the idea that chess training is the life that you have chosen for yourself and ask yourself why that was.
If you already have an answer to that question maybe check to see if you meant it.

"Teach yourself to enjoy and replay positive [chess] memories, especially just before going to sleep. They will make you feel good and it makes more sense than replaying bad ones, which just make you feel miserable"
- @andynyman 's The Gold Rules of Acting (chess added by me)

seek out people who've achieved in other fields and find out their stories.

build a social media tribe of chess folks - regardless of rating - who are out there getting the work done.

Who was it that said 'every chess player needs a hobby'?
Tartakower? Bogoljubov maybe?
Whoever - they're right. And it goes double for those of us who are actively trying to improve their game.

Runners are good people to add to your social media village.
They don't sit around asking each other how to get faster. They do stuff like this >>>

Runners don’t just go out and run as fast as they can as far as they can.
Plan your chess training. Probably it will help to lower the intensity in many of your sessions

Since the hardest part of anything is getting going, I always begin my training sessions with tea and biscuits and have music playing for the first 10-15 minutes or so.

As adult improvers we’re (probably) not going to having a parent figure to assist and support us like a child would.
We have to do it (be it) ourselves.
So, read Tiger Mother. And don’t be that bitch.

Be careful with the gamification features of chess websites - the tactics ratings the experience points etc.
They're great if you use them as indicators of progress made.
If you start thinking of as standards met and to be met, you're most likely deluding yourself.

Think critically about anything you read or hear about chess training, regardless of source.
E.g. with #25 in mind, is this tweet evidence of a successful training programme (maybe) or is it showing something else?

#26 applies to these as much as anything else. They're ideas that I've worked out (and am working out - it's an ongoing process) for me. At best they'll almost certainly need some tweaking for you and your circumstances. Some of them just won't apply to you.
