I'm pro-ship & anti-harassment. I'm also pro-preferences, which is something that seems to be weirdly controversial in some pro-ship spaces.
being pro-ship means not harassing people over the fictional content they like. it doesn't mean that you like everything. it also doesn't mean that you're not allowed to dislike stuff.
it's 100% ok to have prefs in fiction. it's also 100% ok to talk about your likes & dislikes. disliking a trope, ship, kink, genre, etc is not an indictment on someone who does like it.
preferences are normal. expressing your preferences is normal. if someone talks about their likes & dislikes in their space or a like-minded person's space, THAT IS OK.
but I'm seeing too much acting like expressing preferences is the same as being an anti. it's not. I'm also seeing too much telling ppl they can't talk about what they don't like. not cool. curating your timeline is great! it just works both ways.
example: i don't like rpf, so i mute what i can (it's hard bc many times it isn't tagged & just uses the people's names, which i don't want to mute) & scroll past the rest. I don't bother or judge ppl who do like it. but sometimes, like here, i might mention i don't like it.
now, if you like rpf & don't like seeing ppl say they don't like it & you have a problem with my tweets, it's on you to mute the words or unfollow/mute/block me. not tell me what content i can put on my own timeline. you can curate your experience just like i can.
when i see ppl say they're afraid/ uncomfortable talking about stuff they don't like bc ppl might shame themas antis, it makes me just as angry as i get when i see antis trying to shame ppl for what they do like.
saying "i don't like that" or "that's not for me" is not at all like dogpiling, harassing, bullying, & name-calling someone for liking something. equating them is shitty. making ppl feel like they have to like something they don't & like they can't talk about it ever is shitty.
so if you want to talk to me about something we both like, ok! if i mention liking something & you don't, it's ok! you can tell me & talk to me about it! I'm not going to call you an anti or act like you're scum for having preferences like every other person on the planet does.
