My signal accounts keeps notifying me that "Person X is now on Signal" "Y us now on Signal" "Z is now on Signal". Mostly people that got me to install WhatsApp. At least here in Switzerland, it looks like an overnight avalanche exodus from WhatsApp is happening. https://twitter.com/signalapp/status/1349577579091566592
I wonder how such a progress happens. Is it some kind of critical mass of people switching and dragging everyone with them? Do they really care about privacy? Where/How did they hear about WhatsApp being "bad"?
I bet in essence it's the same mechanism that made me install WhatsApp for them. Peer pressure. Still, a highly intriguing phenomenon. And the speed at which this seems to be happening!
What mainly freed me from WhatsApp is our children's schools finally switching a proprietary messaging system. (Was about time!) The only thing holding me there is one really interesting chat group on COVID-19 I don't want to miss out on.
