#TheExpanse A personal perspective on Marco and tribal tattoos, as a lot of people seem to be puzzled by the fact he doesn't have any visible one.

tl;dr: A man who all his life secretly aspired to be a King and found a dynasty doesn't dream of looking like one of the peasants
To understand what Marco really thinks of Belters look at something he told Klaes Ashford: "That's the weakness of our kind: even our dreams are small". "Even". The subtext is that in his eyes, everything about the Belters right now is small, stunted, unrealized, loathsome
From a very young age when he was still the lowest ranking of his crew, Marco has not sought to fit in, be one of the tribe. Marco sees himself as unique, a man of exception, a saviour. A Che, a Lenine, and more recently an Alexander (not the Keon one, though both are great).
In his eyes he is the only path through which the mediocre Belt can achieve greatness.

Marco has spent all his life hating the Inners, because by the sheer fact of his birth he can never have what they have. He can never become one of them. He can't dream their dreams.
Marco doesn't see the Undocumented and the people on Basic. He sees the splendid peacocks like Avasarala on newsfeeds.

Marco has not adopted tribal markings, the same way he likes to dress like an Inner, and the same way (more obvious in the book) he has taught himself
to talk perfectly like an Inner, when he cares to, the same way he can revert to his deep Belt accent when it serves him, or when he loses control.

Marco has a bit the same complex Miller on the show had, though the example of Julie reconciled Miller with his true identity
But Miller too liked to talk like a Inner, dress like a Inner. Miller when we first met him despised his fellow Belters as inferior, the perpetual victims, the losers. And yet at the same time he disliked and resented the Inners like Havelock, even if he imitated them.
Marco pushes this mindset to the most extreme of hatred. He is his own cause, and will elevate the Belt, but in order to elevate himself to his rightful place. If he can't have what the Inners have, then he will destroy it without a second thought.
But pity the Belt if he were to fail, because just like Hitler Marco is the sort of man to shift all blame to the miserable sheep. If he can't bring them to greatness, then no one can because they have none at all, and he'd be happy to watch it all burn.
