Decided to try the Nanyuki train and now I we are stuck in some village near Kigumo.
It wasn't a bad experience for me since I had booked first class. But it was damn cold at night
The passengers 2nd class especially those with kids really had it rough. And the attendants ran out of food. Had to share my snacks. They are sending a bus from Nbi (sic) to come complete the journey.
That is enough adventure for thos week, let me find other means to Nanyuki.
I am in Nanyuki now, hiked up a trail to Kagumo school where I got a matatu to Nanyuki. Unfortunately cottage imekataa cancellation and refund for jana.
The train has a first class with 2 bunk beds, a sink, a fan and a drinking water outlet. The cabin takes 3 passengers. So if you want the privacy, you pay 3000 for the whole cabin.
Some cabin doors do not close and I had to tie the door with a shoe lace because Kenyans being Kenyans just kept opening the door without knocking and when they see you, they go without saying anything.
There are 2 sockets and 2 lights. And a wardrobe. The upper bank gets really hot mchana. Windows have curtains.
We have shared toilets. They are open pit pitting to railway tracks. So that place where it is stuck is a sewer now.
They sell food, soft drinks and alcohol inside.
It takes a very scenic route from Thika, Maragua, Sagana, Karatina, Kiganjo onto Nanyuki. It is not very near the main road in most places so you get to experience Central Kenya through a whole new microcosm. That is why I took the train.
If you have a spirit of adventure, some snacks, phone charger, alcohol if you want, playing cards or games and a warm blankie, you are in for a ln awesome experience
All in all, not how I expected to start my Nanyuki adventure but I made new friends playing cards and listeninng to crazy stories. I laughed too much, my ribs are still aching.
