So, today, my AM team took the risk and one member of leadership decided we would have an open forum about “current events” and what’s going down in the states right now.
The call spanned across the globe with team members from all different sites sharing their perspectives. From Germany to China to Sweden to the east & west coasts of the US.
I was honestly shocked to see how respectful the team members were of each other’s opinions and views. How open they were to not only listening, but also asking questions to better understand. My jaw was on the FLOOR most of the time. I was just in awe of the whole thing.
I spoke very little, having such a marginalized perspective. I was very conscious of the fact that none of these white, well-off engineers could ever see or experience the world in the way that I have as a black person.
But the leader of the call concluded by saying that they all needed to recognize their privilege and to use it to advance the world forward in the way we see fit. To make it a better place for everyone. Putting accountability on the shoulders of his team and BOYYYYY
I was SHOOKETH.
Wow. Honestly just blown away to be part of such an incredible team that really values their employees.
