I love the "Dude, let it go". I've written about 100,000 words on this topic over the last couple of years. If I could let it go, I reckon I probably would have already.
A surprisingly large number of people were annoyed at me for my (not-at-all-meanspirited) thread on the emperor-in-1350 tweet. Kind of weird tbh.
A lot of replies saying 'don't you get it? it's a joke!!!' But the joke only works at all if you assume that spices really were rare in 1350. So I looked at it and thought, hey, here's a teaching moment.
