THREAD: We have failed. We have failed as a country. We have failed to uphold the promises which we made and the basic humanity which should be expected of all of us. This isn't about Leave or Remain, right or left. It's about right and wrong, and on that we have failed. 1/
It really doesn't matter how we voted as individuals. What matters now is recognising we have all been failed by this government, and by politics in general. What happened to the promises of environmental protections and workers rights? Both undermined in the last two weeks. 2/
The reality we face now is that we are out of the EU. Like it or not that isn't changing in the immediacy, maybe never. What matters now is what the UK stands for now, and what it currently stands for isn't something anyone should laud. 3/
We all have the battles we are willing to fight. We will all have our disagreements about what is important and what isn't, but right now everything, all those battles, on all sides, are being lost for the sake or cronyism and ineptitude. 4/
You believe in better environmental protection? How are we worsening those protections by permitting pesticides which damage it? You think that productive farming is more important? Explain how food rotting due to increased red tape helps? 5/
You support migrants and asylum seekers? How have we abandoned them in such a callous and inhumane manner? You believe that we should focus more on citizens? Explain how the government miscalculated the number of rough sleepers or failed to feed children? 6/
You believe in free markets? Tell me how firms being unable to trade with the continent benefits that? You believe in focusing on the British economy? How have we allowed worker's rights to be so severely compromised. 7/
No government will ever be universally loved. That's not the way the world works. They should be able to be respected at least. Social Media is rarely reflective of the wider country. We see in repeated polls that the Conservatives are still polling strong. 8/
This country has failed though. It's failed the right as much as the left. It has failed the global community by attacking international law and human rights. The measure of strength is not its application, it's how the strong protect the weak, and there we really have failed. 9/
I know that some will complain about my use of the word "we", but it is important that it is used. "We" form this country. "We", no matter our political preferences have a stake in its future. We as individuals are being failed, but we as a country are failing. 10/
The world as it stands isn't one most people want to live in. It's scary and uncertain and there is a minority who have become far too vocal in wanting to watch it burn. This is where "we" as individuals need stand together though if we as a country are to do what's right. 11/
