Want to know why the crowd was chanting "Murder the media"? Because disinformation and lies grow stronger without a strong and free media.

A few moments ago I received a message from the @nnaonline warning journalists to be careful while covering Inauguration Week. (2/?)
Essentially, the concern is that yet again journalists could be targeted.

But sadly, violence against journalists in the USA is merely a continuation of what we've seen the last few years. (3/?)
When you scream "fake news," you are undermining one of the core supports for a free and democratic society.

When you encourage violence against journalists, you are encouraging violence against our entire society. (4/?)
Yes, the media isn't perfect and we make mistakes. The media should be called out for mistakes when we make them.

But blanket attacks on the media & journalists are different than pointing out mistakes. Attacks like this are an attempt to get rid of a free media. (5/?)
And if we lose our free media, who will benefit the most? Those who tell the lies and aim to keep them hidden.

I hope all journalists stay safe in the days to come. And please show your support for those working so hard to keep us informed during this difficult time. (6/6)
