Noticed the 'we should be more like Singapore' solution directed as an antidote towards Sri Lanka's treatment of minorities.

Here is why I believe that fewer displays of racism doesn't erase is existence and can be deeply/ dangerously engrained within the system.

In a study carried out by the Institute of Policy Studies in Singapore, 70% of respondants rejected forms of discrimination.

However 6/10 have been subjected to racist comments and 72% believe that belonging to a majority race is more beneficial.

"We have bought into the principles of meritocracy, but that does not mean we have removed all of our implicit biases"

is a perfect summation of the situation by senior research fellow Mathew Mathews, who was part of the study of 2000, aged 21 and older.

Easy to ignore lived realities for the sake of profitable numbers & 'financial/ political stabilities.'

But the truth is far from the picture-perfect meritocracy we see. Important to be acknowledged & not be disillusioned.

A well concealed problem is still a problem.

Aware of there being no need for essays on Twitter. But I can't understand how this comparison is valid - if you've been in S'pore, you can see/experience the issue. It isn't subdued.
Also, LK has been through a war - reconciliation is complicated. It just isn't the same.
