Short thread. The Government Strategy on #remoteworking and #wfh is an opportunity for them to engage meaningfully with @fsuireland @irishcongress and opposition parties @sinnfeinireland @labour @SocDems to regulate and professionalise remote working
What was released today was a step forward in acknowledging the need to regulate this work but it did fall short in a number of areas. A code of practice on the right to disconnect, while welcome, is not legislation but we will engage with the WRC to make it strong @loreillysf
Likewise a tax advisory group on home working is not introducing mandatory home working allowances compensating staff for added costs as has been introduced in Spain and recommended by the @ilo @marie_sherlock @geraldnash
The right to request remote working is good but we have seen where this isn't backed up with a right to set location and hours it has not made a significant impact. We need this right to be weighted towards default acceptance and an employers refusal is rare, where its possible
Today is good step. We have made the right to disconnect a Government priority and we have made the professionalisation of remote working a key issue for @LeoVaradkar but there are still a number of items that need to be addressed @Jocser99 @andrew4mk @CjColclough @drbambrick
