This is not a bodega, u clown. No, this is not a petulant "you don't understand NY" tweet. It's that this politician is completely out of touch even as he claims to care about the people. I know it's easy to just dunk on someone for not knowing things about NY Culture and go bc it's a whole genre of tweet, but this genuinely makes me angry. Bodegas are largely immigrant-owned. They are key to the community. (...)
(...) To not even care enough to know what a bodega is, then to try to ingratiate yourself with the people and the community with this kind of PR material is such a disrespectful move to the people one supposedly claims to want to serve.
I actually find this really insulting to the community. Sure, this might still be an immigrant-owned family grocery but to call it a bodega is a very specific thing. It's not all the same. They have unique struggles and a unique role.
Mind you, this is also a man who has drawn on his background as a son of immigrants and "relating" to POC build a base of support. Sorry, he's just another rich guy who didn't care to understand your life or problems before deciding he should be the one to solve them. 
He really could have sent the tweet without the video and been fine and that's something I think we should all think about. It's not just about the good message, it's about associating himself with it. And he didn't even respect the people enough to even realize he screwed up.
I'm not even saying he, as a politician, would be in the wrong for sending a tweet with a video with himself in it. That's arguably his job. I'm saying he screwed up and it's worse because the inaccuracy of the video just makes it more obviously & insultingly self-serving.
