Joseph Junior Adenuga, mainly known as Skepta, is a rapper from the UK; he’s by far the most influential and prolific voice in the UK music scene right now. in my opinion he’s levels above his contemporaries and he gives flawless performances most of the time on anything he’s on.
early beginnings:
in 2005, skepta and his brother JME founded the grime collective Boy Better Know, which essentially popularised and commercialised the grime genre of music in a way that only legends like Dizzee Rascal have been able to do previously.

branching:
he tried making more pop type music such as Bad Boy on Doin’ it Again to try an appeal to the mainstream, however he didn’t really feel like he was in his element. he made some great songs but his presence as a rapper is truly felt when he shows his roots.

breakout:
in 2014 Skepta released That’s Not Me, featuring JME. it was a huge hit in the UK and an anthem for grime and everyone following the scene at the time. it became so popular that it caught traction internationally, and most notably the US.

breaking boundaries:
in 2016, skepta released Konnichiwa, which to this day is still one of the best albums to come out of the UK rap scene. stacked with bangers, it showed skepta as a voice to be reckoned with. he even won a mercury prize in 2016 for it, which was impressive.

consistency:
he easily has one of the best feature runs i’ve seen in ANY rapper, not just the UK. his achievements know no limits, they exceed internationally. to show up cudi, rocky and carti on a track is crazy. these features showed greatness for the UK, especially PTL.

in 2019, skepta released Ignorance is Bliss, which is my personal favourite of his. he delves into some new sounds here whilst staying true to his roots and it makes for a great listen. further cementing himself as a UK rap legend. if you ask me, he’s the goat from that scene.
