I'm really sorry @jasonhickel but we have a Naomi Woolf-style problem here. You cannot use Caliban and the Witch as a history, it isn't even close to accurate on the details. Not even ballpark. My specialty is the history of vagrancy and I'm here to tell you, this is flat wrong:
Not that I am not utterly and completely onboard with the overall thrust of the argument. I am, you're right about the main arc of this story. But if you're going to attempt history you *NEED* to get the details right.

If you want to make an argument, as you should! on the history of capitalism and 'improvement' being predicated on treating the poor a certain way, then you need to read about the history of poverty.
