Not that I think my hot take means anything right now, but I believe (a) Joe meant $2000 total ($600+$1400) but (b) English is shitty language and people understandably thought he meant $2000 checks in addition to the $600 ($2000+$600), and (c) that full $2600 is needed. Do it.
- We need the money. The benefits of giving everyone $2000 now are obvious.

- The political "cost" to give everyone $1400 now is the same as the cost to give everyone $2000 now.

- The costs of *appearing* to "walk back" $2000 to $1400 are unnecessary and avoidable.
Basically, there are huge risks to the $1400 plan (appearing to break a campaign promise) and significantly lower risks/costs to just giving everyone $2000. We don't need to shoot ourselves in the foot on this one.
Moreover: No "one-time" check is going to cover this pandemic. Might as well make it $2,000 monthly and keep it going without having to renew it manually every 2, 4, 6 months. That has been upsetting for everyone and left us all in a precarious position where we can't plan.
