So here it is! Some small snippets of the ambiences and SFX I designed for episode 9. Begin small thread!
At first I just had this small windmill scene and I knew right away it needed to sound peaceful and calm after Ivan's last adventure. The windmill was made out of squeaky floorboards, metal poles off a marina and a low pitch/ filtered boiling snails loop from France đź‘€
The gentle gusts of wind, crisp grass breezes and cricket sounds were all recorded in the South downs. It was also a great experience to try pacing out individual bird calls instead of using a static loop to make the environment feel more alive.
I love the contrast of this episode, how it starts out very chilled and ambient and then becomes more intense as Ivan progresses. Later on he gets sucked into a pipe- I used an actual pipe impulse response to simulate his bangs and screams from within.. he sounds quite mad.
And lastly I made sure that the rain in the environment had plenty of material sweeteners, to enhance the dynamics of the scene as you walk past them. Also the sludge pipe sounds were all from a wine press also recorded in France!
I had such a great time on this episode. It was great to let my creativity take over and i had a bunch of fun, I also like looking back at these messy reaper sessions and recording them as I just had the idea and wanted to capture my workflow.
Final tweet!

But yeah, I think it's great showing how it came along from that first clip and how it's great to get messy ideas out first and see them finalised in the actual release.

Makes me happy seeing it along with great dialogue and music and how it all gels together ❤️
