Forcing people to have any medication , unless they are incompetent to decide, is not ethical. But lets not think of this as a medical issue...but a public health issue. We expect that someone who risks others peoples health by polluting the environment, will face sanctions. 2/
There are laws to enforce public health matters like waste disposal, pollution When someone breaks those laws they are fined, or even imprisoned.. We already have laws around covid and fines for those who break the rules. So can we make the vaccine mandatory? 3/
Some people genuinely cannot have vaccines due to allergies. Some may even have religious objections. These MUST be allowable by law. And my instinct is still that to force anyone who has genuine if misguided concerns to have the vaccine is wrong. 4/
'Fake news' about vaccine abounds. and hopefully it can be countered . @DrJV75 is working to do that. With my retired pharmacists head on the risks of the vaccine or FAR less than the risks of Covid. The benefits of any drug must always outweigh the risks. 5/
The vaccine does. Since this is a public crisis..I can see the law maybe invoked...but I hope not. However businesses are already acting. Airlines may not accept bookings without proof of vaccination. Venues may expect proof of vaccination from those who attend events 6/
Its not impossible that some countries may require proof of vaccination (or legitimate exemption) before issuing visa's. I hope pressures like that will work. The public health aspect to this DOES mean legislation could be used...but I hope only as a last resort. 7/
