Welcome to Atlanta, Arthur Smith
Smith has been in charge of a Ryan Tannehill-led offense that has ranked top-10 in points, yards and giveaways over the last two seasons.
Smith spent the first five years of his coaching career on the defensive side of the ball. https://twitter.com/diannaespn/status/1350039456133341184

Ryan Tannehill went from being one of the worst starting quarterbacks in the NFL down in Miami to all of a sudden becoming Pro Bowler under Arthur Smith in Tennessee.
With the ~~potential~~ hire of Arthur Smith, I fully expect the Falcons to go after a running back early in the draft this year.
One of the biggest takeaways from Arthur Smith is his success in the red zone.
The Titans had the best RZPct (75.6%) in 2019, scoring a TD on 34 of their 45 red zone trips. And in 2020, the Titans had the second-best RZPct (75.0%), scoring a TD on 48 of their 64 red zone trips.

In comparison, the Falcons had the seventh-worst RZPct (51.7%) in 2019, scoring a TD on just 31 of their 60 red zone trips.
In 2020, the Falcons had the sixth-worst RZPct (53.4%), scoring a TD on 31 of their 58 red zone trips.

The Falcons (118) have reached the red zone nine more times than the Titans (109) over the last two seasons... however, the Titans (82) have scored 20 more touchdowns from the red zone than the Falcons (62) have during these last two seasons...
Think about all those close games.
Think about all those close games.
The Falcons lost EIGHT games this past season by 7 points or less...
It’s hard to imagine they would’ve lost half those games if their red zone offense was slightly better.

Another BIG takeaway from Arthur Smith is his aggressiveness. Not only does he continue to take shots down field with the lead (unlike the Falcons)... but the Titans have also been more efficient in the pass game.
The Titans have had a better NY/A (Net Yards gained per pass attempt) than the Falcons in each of the last two seasons...
Titans
2019: 7.1 NY/A (7th-best)
2020: 7.2 NY/A (7th-best)
Falcons
2019: 6.4 NY/A (14th-best)
2020: 6.5 NY/A (17th-best)
Titans
2019: 7.1 NY/A (7th-best)
2020: 7.2 NY/A (7th-best)
Falcons
2019: 6.4 NY/A (14th-best)
2020: 6.5 NY/A (17th-best)
The Falcons had one of the most efficient passing offenses in the NFL in the three seasons leading up to Dirk Koetter’s arrival...
2016: 8.2 NY/A (best in the NFL)
2017: 7.2 NY/A (3rd-best)
2018: 7.1 NY/A (7th-best)
2016: 8.2 NY/A (best in the NFL)
2017: 7.2 NY/A (3rd-best)
2018: 7.1 NY/A (7th-best)
With that being said... if the Falcons address their running back situation and improve at least one offensive line position this offseason than I’d expect their offense to return to it’s dynamic form under Arthur Smith.
