I'm always amused when people get upset when asked to slightly expand their vocabulary & use words *in their proper context.* Grammatically, Male & Female can be adjectives or nouns but apply to any species. Man & Woman are only nouns & only apply to the human species. 1/ https://twitter.com/RgrHelper/status/1349744075411480585
While there is technically nothing wrong with calling a woman a "female," social construction has rendered it sometimes a debasing or disrespectful term. It's a short leap from female to animal (such as a dog) to "bitch;" and often it is used to imply this context 2/
Male/Female should only be used when referring to humans in the adjectival form when it provides actual, vital context to the sentence structure. Otherwise it's women and men, ladies and gentlemen. 3/
If you're rolling your eyes at me, ask literally any woman (esp. in the military) if they've been referred to as a "female" in a degrading or sexist manner. Yes, I'm sure some will disagree with me; but to make my point-comment or RT this if you have & then read the replies. 4/
Because you'll find many who have. Using words in their proper context isn't hard and it isn't "cancel culture." It's important to drive inclusivity. Thank you for listening to my geeky interdisciplinary rant between grammar, misogyny, and leadership. Do better. /end
