My letter to my MP, @VictoriaPrentis.

Dear Ms. Prentis,

I am sure you can see how the creative industries have been hammered by COVID. I myself have only done three shows since March 15th 2020, and this is in spite of the fact that I have a very small, portable show... /1
...that I can put on anywhere.

Now I gather that the Government rejected the EU’s offer of standard proposal to allow reciprocal exemption from visas for artists touring in the UK and Europe. This is absolutely shattering news. /2
It is incomprehensible that to me that the Government should do this.

Therefore, in your capacity as my MP, I ask you to push for a no-cost touring artist visa-free work permit, or ‘Musicians’ Passport’, in parliament and beyond. /3
Britain’s cultural exports have been one of our greatest successes for decades. However, cost & sheer administrative impact of varying entry requirements for personnel, equipment and vehicles in each country within the EU will be prohibitive to the majority of live musicians. /4
I myself have performed in Germany on a regular basis, & also in Italy and Majorca. I can’t see it happening again under current arrangements.

This is a terrible blow at a time when many are still working out how to recover from a year of lost work. What is the purpose.../5
...or gain to Britain if you actively prevent British artists from working in the EU? What's the advantage in stopping cultural exchange happening in the UK by erecting barriers so that EU artists are discouraged from working here by sheer volume of admin & costs involved? /6
Surely supporting cultural exports should be imperative if your intention is to build Britain back better than ever?
I look forward to your response.
Yours,
Dillie Keane
