Just seen another all white panel show line up & can't stop thinking about piece I read a while ago where YouTube pointed out they'll always be ahead of TV in representing diversity.
Because talent creates whatever they want & ideas aren't driven by team of posh white folk with preconceived ideas at what brown people should be doing on TV.
So for example I currently watch a black female cosplaying weightlifter who criticises the HAES movement, something I won't see on TV any time soon as they're a few years behind.
And I watch loads of funny vids of teens reviewing the shittest MUAs in their town. They're predominantly Asian or black and working class.
TV is still predominantly run by an elite so it's incredibly hard to keep up a commitment to diversity AND employ your fellow Footlights pals. Of course kids prefer YouTube when they can actually see themselves reflected back at them rather than the same voice over and over.
The unpleasant truth of it is this: you don't pay £30k a year to send your kids to a posh school for nothing. You're paying so they all employ each other down the line. I can't see that changing in Britain any time soon.
This is something I've been interested in ever since my performance on a show nearly wasn't broadcast for being shite (translation: Scots working class accent, can't possibly be making intelligent points) then when it came out got 2 million views on YouTube.
