So happy to hear #ISGlobal adheres to the #NoMoreMatildas campaign, from @twitamit_es! Do you know what is the "Matilda effect"? 🧵
Matilda Joslyn Gage was the first woman to describe the bias on acknowledging and recognizing the acievements of women in science. Margaret W Rossiter later called it The Matilda Effect.
đź“ťDo you recall how many of your science books at school provided information you about female scientists? Could you name more than 5 relevant discoveries made by women?
A colleague of mine @mar_i_ona93 once showed me this amazing book; "Women in science: 50 Fearless pioneers Who changed the world" very recomended! Many information is available today, we just need to give space to it!
To end Matilda Effect, it is a must to talk about female referents, with the collaboration of schools, teachers and many scientists. We need to acknowledge this bias in science, generate content, create resources and avobe all spread the information!!
We women, we do science, and we're not going to give up!! #women #genderequity #science #globalhealth #NoMoreMatildas!!
