Richard has resigned, so who may take the reins of @scottishlabour?
There are numerous potential candidates. Here’s some of the members speculated to run.👇
ANAS SARWAR:
He was an MP for Glasgow Central from 2010-2015 and since 2016 has been at Holyrood. In 2017 he ran against Leonard for leadership however failed to beat Leonard. He was Deputy Leader from 2011-2014 and has held posts in both the UK and Scottish shadow cabinets.
MONICA LENNON: She’s been an MSP on the Central Scotland List since 2016. She is in the left of the party and backed Leonard’s leadership pitch in 2017. Since then she’s been Labour’s shadow health secretary and has championed a bill to provide free period products.
JACKIE BALLIE: She’s been Dumbartonshire’s MSP since @ScotParl was founded and is currently Deputy Leader. She’s held many positions in the Scottish Labour shadow cabinet and was a minister in the Labour Scottish Executives. She’s certainly the most experienced candidate.
IAN MURRAY: He’s not currently in @ScotParl but instead he is an MP for Edinburgh South. He’s been the MP there since 2010. He’s shadow Scottish Secretary and in 2020 he ran for @UKLabour Deputy Leader. He was a critic of Corbyn and almost left the party to join ChangeUK in 2019.
WHO ELSE? I have said the likely candidates, however there are a few speculations of some others who’d run too. These include former PM Gordon Brown and left winger Neil Finlay MSP. But I very much doubt either would stand however politics in this age is somewhat unpredictable!
