Okay, so I'm gonna make a THREAD about this because it's kinda been bothering me, a lot of fandom discussions about Disco's bridge crew seem to end up critiquing the show for not giving them more things to do but no one is asking why should they be given more?

1/?
With basically 14 episodes per season and 6 to 7 main characters to juggle within that short of amount time, how exactly do we have spaces for the bridge crew, a background supporting cast, to be given more when the story should be focused on the main cast instead?

2/?
With 42 episodes, Disco is essentially 2 seasons by old school Trek episode count, and I'm sorry but which Trek show in 2 seasons really had developed background players that much? The only reason we got bridge crew focus was because past shows' main cast was the bridge crew

3/?
But Disco's focus ISN'T the bridge crew. They are simply supporting players in the narrative. So when people say they can't remember bridge crew names as a knock on the show, I'm just like, did you remember names of other shows' background crew characters back then?

4/?
I get everyone wants more bridge crew on Disco, I do too, they are interesting. But I feel like I have to remind people that the bridge crew AREN'T the main characters. Last I checked nobody forgets the names of Michael, Saru, Tilly, Stamets, Culber, Book and others.

5/?
Disco is actually doing its job by focusing the story on its main characters, while occasionally giving some focus to background bridge crew. And quite frankly, in 42 episodes, the bridge crew has had more notability and focus than any other Trek shows in their 42 episodes

6/?
Nearly all Trek shows had background bridge crews you barely recognize even after 4 or 5 seasons. Disco has actually given more attention to its background bridge crew/supporting players. Yes the show is 3 seasons, but I fee like people are not taking in the context.

7/?
Disco is not 3 seasons with 24 episodes. If it was, then, maybe I'd say it failed with background bridge crew. But again, the show has like 14 eps per season with 6/7 people in the main cast that actually need the attention and focus bc they are what the stories are about.

8/?
Do I hope for more bridge crew action? Yes of course. But I feel discussions and criticisms of bridge crew treatment often ignores the different context and set up Disco in comparison to past Trek shows, and it's rather unfair.
