I'm seeing a lot of authors on here apologising for promoting their forthcoming books right now.

I've *also* had literally dozens of lovely messages in the past 9 months from readers saying books have got them through the ongoing shitshow.

Stop apologising! Books are needed!
Yes, the world is on fire. Yes, everything is awful. Promoting a book will not make that worse. Reading a book might make someone feel better, and give them the breather they need to pick up and keep on.
Authors who can carry on doing their damn jobs *should* carry on doing their damn jobs, because in the increasingly unlikely event 2021 doesn't end in a giant meteor strike or zombie outbreak, we will need an economy to come back to. Promo the damn book.
