I'm super grossed out by the Emotional Wound Thesaurus writer resource book having an emotional wound category called "Disabilities and Disfigurements." Short thread.
~CW ableism and me being sick af that this keeps showing up in writing resources.~

Learning disabilities is one of the emotional wounds in this category. "Basic needs often compromised by this wound: love and belonging, esteem and recognition, self-actualization." Like, wtf??
Some other wounds include a physical disfigurement, a speech impediment, a TBI, living with a medical diagnosis, living with chronic pain, etc.
According to this book, disabilities and disfigurements will affect careers like: chef, professor, physical therapist, athlete, and dietician (among others).
Even grosser is this emotional wound: GROWING UP WITH A SIBLING'S DISABILITY OR CHRONIC ILLNESS.
I'm really tired of books constantly pitting abled and disabled siblings against each other as they compete for love. And I'm really tired of resources like this.

I don't have the desire to continue reading this, so here's an old thread about a similar problem in another writing resource. Stop using disabled characters and disabilities as plot devices in your stories. https://twitter.com/sabinaposts/status/1258604005300854786?s=20
Even the currrent website still uses words like "handicaps."
