how happiness and out of the woods by taylor swift are lyrically connected
disclaimer: this is a speculation and showing lyrically parallels. i’m not trying to say she wrote it about a specific relationship, i’m just showing the connections i’ve made while listening to it
out of the woods and happiness are the same song just one is about the relationship while she’s in it and the other is when she’s out of the relationship looking back on it.
“looking at it now, it all seemed so simple” that means that when she looks at the relationship she thought it was simple and was going to happen natural. “honey when i’m above the trees. i see it for what it is” means that when she’s over it she sees that it’s simple and true.
“to move the furniture so we could dance” they danced after the party ended and danced on their own. “I was dancing when the music stopped” meaning she continues to dance even after the party. (idk if its a party or a date or whatever)
“when the sun came up you were looking at me” meaning that they usually never saw eye to eye but sometimes they would see the same things and work out. “Tell me, when did your winning smile Begin to look like a smirk” meaning she saw the signs of a not working relationship
and she completely ignored it and never knows where it went wrong but she knew that it was always like that. also with the words “that glorious sunrise” also relating to the ootw lyric because you can take context clues from ootw and see tell that when they were looking at
each other everything bad kind of went away and they were happy in that brief moment. and to mention trees in that song when trees really don’t go with the relationship connects to “but the monsters turned out to be just trees.”
and saying that there will be happiness after it but there was happiness during it, goes with “are we out of the woods yet are we in the clear yet good?” meaning that she was happy in the relationship that wasn’t perfect
but she knows that when they broke up, that there would be another reason for happiness and it wouldn’t have the anxiety with it
