Got a heads up on this on email at work and thought I'd do a thread on it.

Coral Bleaching Alert:

This site: https://coralreefwatch.noaa.gov/product/5km/index_5km_baa_max_r07d.php ,monitors global sea surface temperatures and calculates how much hotter an area is than the long term average for that area.
It then adds up the number of weeks that the area has stayed 2 degrees Celsius above the average temperature. Coral bleaching is expected to start when the temperatures stay 1 or 2 degrees above average for 1 or 2 weeks.
The map below shows that some areas to the west of Fiji are getting hot and need to start looking for coral bleaching. Fiji seems to be okay for now, but needs to keep an eye on it.
Remember 2016 when the ocean got as hot as 35 degrees Celsius and resulted in mass fish kills in Fiji and Vanuatu? In addition to the fish kills, a number of coral bleaching events were reported in the region. Just be aware.
