The lead story on the news tonight should have been @JoeBiden's plan to deal w covid/boost the economy. Instead, it was Trump. Dont get me wrong: impeachment is 100% warranted. But those pushing it are doing Biden & @KamalaHarris no favor. The costs will outweigh any benefits.
Normally, impeachment is justified b/c it removes the individual from office. But the Nov election already did this. In this sense it is moot. Yes, impeachment now would bar Trump from future office. But there are other ways to lessen the odds Trump can mount a political return.
A trial will take up valuable political oxygen. It will contradict the 46th president's message of coming together. There are other ways--a commission, hearings, & courts--to press the case vs Trump. Worse, it is likely Trump will be acquitted, fueling his return to politics.
What will determine the fate of the Biden administration will be getting Covid under control, boosting eco growth, & bringing the country together. A trial works vs all this. Best we turn the corner & get on with the task of, to borrow a phrase, making America great again.
