Anyone want a stroke recovery update? Sure? Okay. Was pretty good finally for many hours and now not so much- tired and bummed out about that. And so it goes. The end.
Yes yes. Taking care.
Here’s your reminder of signs of stroke. (Did I ever say what mine were?)

I guess I didn’t. Here is what I know.
- bad migraine NYE (I get migraines - not concerned)
- still migrainey in the am
- made a coffee (caffeine helps)
- set it down (spilled it everywhere but had no idea)
- felt “off” so decided to lay for a minute before drinking coffee

- felt it was just migraine and didn’t notice anything at all different - but was in full stroke
- 15yo spoke to me - I don’t remember this and just stared at her apparently (break my heart)
- she got my husband - he spoke to me and I knew he was talking

- I heard every word and could guess his sentence like if you read a redacted statement you can guess what it says - I can’t recall if I answered but I thought I did
- I had wicked weird vision - beyond my normal migraine vision, double vision? Couldn’t focus? Weird

- I STILL THOUGHT IT WAS A MIGRAINE - I was annoyed he was acting freaky
- He was calling 811 while I rested ... because the speech started to resolve a bit (of course they said get to the ER)
- this was about 30-40 minutes of time

- I felt a bit better so got up to see what the fuss was about ... test myself
- I went to brush my teeth and could not firmly grip my toothbrush
- that was when I finally clued in
- husband already had my AHC card and my things ...

By the time we got to triage I was feeling 80% better and no migraine. We had to explain I was not as sharp as normal and it was urgent. After triage I had a doctor, IV, CT scan, results and meds for a clot within 30-40 minutes. This was within the 3-4 hour danger window by lots.
The ER doctor before the CT was certain it was migraine and NOT a stroke because of my health, age and migraine history. She was as shocked as I. Grateful she room the precautionary steps immediately.
I was moved by ambulance to Foothills immediately after. By the time I was on the way my symptoms had nearly resolved.
Of the 4 signs of FAST, I only had 1 that was obvious to my family. I never had a droop and I could lift my arms.

Only in hindsight does 911 make more sense than calling 811 (according to my husband). However we live 10 minutes from hospital and symptoms were passing while still grappling with what was happening. I was cared for promptly. My daughter alerting my husband was the critical step
SO TEACH YOUR LOVED ONES SIGNS OF STROKE.
I didn’t know I was in the middle of anything strange - they did. xo
This was the day before the stroke. 100% loving life, just turned 49.
Today is recovery day 13.
Fully okay minus fatigue and wobbly eyes at times. I’ll be okay.

If you get migraines... do yourself a solid and document your normal symptoms so they don’t mask other issues. /end
Adding a shout out to my oldest (17). While 15 spotted the concern (saviour)... my oldest has advanced sports medicine through school and CPR and first aid training as a gymnastics coach. She drilled signs of stroke into us. Prepping in normal times matters! Teens are amazing.
