Austin Rivers, Immanuel Quickley, & RJ Barrett Shot Analysis/Film MEGA THREAD vs Brooklyn Nets

per request of @KnicksWillRise & @j4remi , I'm gonna look at all 3 players. I'll start with IQ First.

IQ had a solid night, 3-6 from 3. Gonna tweet as I go - let's start!

Love Julius DHOs this season. I've been asking for more of this. JJ Redick got paid a ton of money because of this. Like to see IQ get more opportunities like this because it's a much easier bucket opportunity. Fluid motion and easy 3. Can't get any better than this.

I enjoy seeing the diversity of IQ's floater game. When you're a three point threat like he is, it's even more deadly. Chiozza - a good defender - overextended himself here, opening up the IQ floater. Shamet, spending his last night wearing no 13, had no shot here.

Attention to detail: this DHO could have worked, but Noel ruined the opportunity because he simply didn't set the strong-side screen on Chiozza. Had he done that, IQ makes the 3. Instead, Chiozza sped past him and IQ missed a close 3 after a last min weakside screen.

I'll let @MikeVorkunov 's tweet below speak for itself here, but his thoughts sum up my thoughts on IQ's floaters. Avoid settling for long floaters. Just look below and this will sum up his missed floaters last night.

Threes off screens are really nice too. Here, Mitch doesn't really set a true screen, but does just enough to push Chiozza off balance giving IQ a wide open 3. Cue the Mike Breen BANG please. We should see more of this in the upcoming games.

Last one on IQ.

This is another step of his development. The slow fakeout and the crossover put Bruce Brown on ice skates. Knowing Brown's trailing him, IQ was able to draw contact and get the and-1 here. He's crafty enough to be able to do this a few times a game.

Rivers time:

Rivers had a rough night. 3-10 from the field, yet 2-5 from 3. Maybe the minutes catching up to him? Doesn't help that he was 1-5 from 2, of which all those misses were right around the rim. Let's see what went right or wrong below!

Rivers took 7 shots in the 1st half and missed all 7 shots. This shot was an encapsulation of his awful 1st half. Had the window for a wide open finger roll, but looks like his legs just gave up on him and he missed it. Look at how frustrated he is after the miss.

The 5'11 Chiozza got credited for a block here, but I think Shamet's defense here led to Rivers just fumbling the ball here. One of 2 blocked shot attempts in the 1st half (DeAndre Jordan the 2nd). Just another indication of a frustrating 1st half for Rivers.

Crazy enough, Rivers hit all 3 of his shots in the 2nd half, 2 of which were 3s.

Chiozza got picked on tonight. Here RJ found a wide open Rivers. Chiozza didn't bother guarding him. Rivers got a rare wide open look for a strong side elbow 3. Rare positive moment tonight.

RJ was another case of tale of 2 halves. 1st half 0-5. 2nd half 7-10, including 2 streaks of 3 makes in a row (coincidentally all of those shots made were 2s). Let's see what actually worked in the 2nd half compared to the 1st.

During the 1st 3 shot streak, this was probably the most impressive of the shots. Mitch sets a screen on Harris, giving RJ just enough room for a pullup J. Harris tried to retreat, but was just a wee bit late there.

Young Rowan pulled a Hakeem! Some poetry in motion here. Almost put KD on ice skates with the dream shake. RJ put up the shot and got just enough magic on the shot for it to roll in. In a year or so, that'll be a swish.

I also enjoyed this shot in the 2nd 3 make streak. Love the hesitation move in his arsenal so that he can create some separation. Can even work against one of Frank's countrymen in TLC. Went right-to-left for a layup. Let's see more of this.

One final note on RJ:

We know his struggles on offense are profound. 1/2 is mental, 1/2 is mechanical. If he can ignore the noise and just focus on the basics, focus on the mechanics, and avoid taking difficult shots, it'll go a long way on a road to improvement.
