Were you in line for position in Biden admin? "We did have talks," @AndrewYang said. They "concluded," he said, when he told @JoeBiden he was going to run for mayor.

. @AndrewYang replies he is a real New Yorker - got married here, lives here, was here on 9/11 and Hurricane Sandy. Says he can lift the city out of current crisis.

Would you urge others to come back to the city? "I would. ... We can all see that crime is rising, homelessness is a growing crisis and families are going to make this call for themselves," @AndrewYang replies.

"It seems like this vaccine rollout is not going as well as it should," @AndrewYang said. Blames it in part on fight b/w admins of @NYGovCuomo and @NYCMayor.

. @AndrewYang suggested app that verifies who has been vaccinated. Earlier today he told me during event in Flushing that he doesn't support complete mandate, but agrees w/ partial mandate for entering specific places.

. @AndrewYang criticizes property tax structure that frees Columbia University, MSG and other places that get complete tax breaks. "MSG is an egregious place," @errollouis says. Presses on how Yang would change it for colleges.

"I am very very confident that they could pay for city services and employ those people," @AndrewYang says.

What would you do that's different from @NYCMayor re: getting along w/ @NYGovCuomo? @AndrewYang says he has @KamalaHarris's number and wants to be a partner to the state in getting fed $. Earlier today he told press he is friends w/ Chris Cuomo, the gov's brother.

"I think we have a crisis in terms of public safety," @AndrewYang said. Said he supports "violence interrupters" and says there are times when police are needed.

. @AndrewYang says he is not "particularly ideological."

"I believe the NYPD could use a civilian commissioner," @AndrewYang says. Avoids discussion of @NYPDShea - who has become a lightning rod in the mayor's race.

Do you support closing of Rikers Island? "We are in a crisis. I 100% support the vision of closing Rikers Island" @AndrewYang said, but said city must be flexible on timeframe.

What role have testing companies played toward segregation in G&T and specialized high schools? @AndrewYang says he supports using SHSAT as a data point, in add'n w/ academic record, interviews, etc. Said he would not abandon the test, as some are calling for.

Who do you look to for inspiration among NYC mayors? @AndrewYang says first mayor he remembers as a child is Ed Koch, whom he said made people feel good, loved NY and was often seen on TV smiling.
