My hobby rant...
...because why else use twitter?
It seems there is a large vocal minority that are super doom and gloom about the hobby. They love to toss around the term “bubble” as if it is the end all be all.

This type of constant negative talk surrounding the hobby has become ever louder as you see some card prices rise.
It comes off as “I am whining because I can’t afford cards I once could and I can’t find wax”

Like I get it. Nobody can just run to target and grab a box of cards anymore.
Let me say that again: NOBODY CAN JUST RUN TO TARGET AND GRAB A BOX OF CARDS ANYMORE.
That right there is one of the key indicators proving we aren’t in a bubble.

It seems those who don’t understand how true markets work, alway scream the loudest that it is about to fail.
Look at the stock market! How many times have you heard “a crash is around the corner!” From a joe schmo?
Same logic applies here.

To better cement my point, I will provide some background on why I believe we aren’t in a bubble but rather a growth market that hasn’t leveled yet.
1) There is money to be made. In any area of life, if there is money to be made then there are people there to make it. This is so much easier now with social media and the internet.
That increases demand.
That increases demand.
2) Sports are the American way of life. Fantasy sports are still exploding in popularity.
When Jeff the nerdy accountant who started watching football 2 years ago is now in 8 leagues... yeah sports market is booming

2) This then translates to the card market. It is acting as a pseudo-fantasy league. Except when your guy does well you make more money instead of beating your friend in a matchup.
2) Sport popularity will not shrink the forseeable future. This leaves a large area of overlap for new demand in the card market
3) As I said earlier, not being able to find cards in any store shows how crazy demand is.
If people weren’t still buying in the 2nd hand market, those flippers would leave.
But they are still here. Why? Business is boomin baby

4) The hobby has seen continued growth for about 9-10 months now. If there was a true bubble, it would likely be bleeding heavily by now. This longevity instead points to a growth market
5) Popularity is still growing. Celebs are starting to talk about cards. My non-hobby friends are sharing articles and asking me questions.
The demand hasn’t reached its full potential. I expect plenty of more people to make card collecting mainstream

6) A few cards dropping in price doesn’t mean there is an overall bubble bursting.
Like the stock market, single assets will climb and fall with no relation to the actual market as a whole

7) There are more collectors than you think. Just look at how many breakers there are and how fast they fill.
This is yet another pointer to how demand is still thriving.

I have a few more points but decided this should sum up my thoughts well.
Quit crying bubble. Quit crying junk wax 2.0.
It only comes off as whining and ahows a large disconnect with what is actually happening in the hobby world. Its no longer March 2020.
