I wasn't going to share this, but I should. I tested positive for COVID-19 after an initial negative result. I knew it was a false negative because I experienced all the symptoms, and a close family contact tested positive. So, I decided to get re-tested 2 days later (1/9)
and it yielded what I suspected. There was a difference in the administrating of the tests, and thus I can only conclude it was human error. Here are some of my concerns and I hope it will be helpful. (2/9)
1. The first nurse did not swab the back of my throat, just the back of my tongue.
2. In the second test, the same nurse was doing it incorrectly, until a nurse overlooking told her to step aside, and then she administered the test correctly. (3/9)
3. Public Health Ontario contacts you first, then Toronto Public Health contacts you days later. They go through the same process and share the same information. It was a bit confusing. (4/9)
4. Don't rely on contact tracing by public health officials, tell anyone you have been in contact with immediately to get tested. After 2 of us tested positive, 5 of us altogether ended up contracting the virus. It took approx. 6 days for us to realize it. (5/9)
5. A public health official told a family member that they cannot get COVID again. That is a lie.
6. People who are not internet savvy have a serious barrier to booking appointments and checking their test results online. (6/9)
7. My legal quarantine was over the same day I got my positive test result. Public Health counted 14 days from when I was experiencing symptoms NOT when I tested positive. (7/9)
I tested positive on Jan 2. I'm not 100% yet, but very close to it and grateful that my family and I have life. My heartfelt condolences to those reading this who have lost someone to the virus. If there is anywhere to share information to support those experiencing.. (8/9)
the effects of COVID-19, please let me know. I realize that there is so much misinformation out there and the more we share the more it can help. Especially, COVID-hacks, what to do, what to drink... cough suppressants. It's all up in the air. DM if you need any support. xo(9/9)
