🚨President-elect Biden releasing his proposal for next COVID relief bill. Here’s what’s in it for renters & people experiencing homelessness. (Thread)

He proposes:

✅ $30B in emergency rental and utility assistance (in addition to $25B already enacted)

1/
✅ An extended eviction moratorium thru September 30 (through congressional action).

✅ $1400 stimulus checks for adults (in addition to $600 checks in Dec).

2/
✅ $5B in emergency assistance for people experiencing homelessness.

Additionally, proposal would increase minimum wage to $15/hr, further expand UI benefits, provide 15% increase in food assistance (SNAP), increase Child Tax Credit & much more. 3/
All of these resources and protections are badly and urgently needed.

AND, we’ll need still MORE to ensure housing stability for low-income renters and to keep people experiencing homelessness safe. 4/
In addition to asking Congress to extend the eviction moratorium, President-elect Biden must do so himself via Executive Order! On his 1st day, in office, Pres-elect Biden must:

➡️ Sign EO to extend, strengthen and enforce federal eviction moratorium.

5/
In addition to the resources/protections proposed by President elect Biden, Congress must also provide:

➡️ $28B for 500,000 new Housing Choice Vouchers for continued housing stability.

➡️ Legal aid $ and other renter protections

6/
➡️ An additional $1.6B in ESG (for total of $6.6B) for non-congregate shelter, short-term rental assistance and housing stabilization services.

AND...
➡️ $44B to nat’l Housing Trust Fund for states/cities to acquire/convert hotels/motels & other properties as exit solution for people who are homeless and were moved to hotels throughout pandemic & long-term solutions for others experiencing homelessness.
