There's a valid point in here about how the American government has catastrophically failed the people

Symbolism matters. Reinforcing norms matters. The impeachment matters https://twitter.com/Tankarchist/status/1349574358960918528

When @Johnnthelefty and I were surrounded by Groypers in DC, the only thing that kept us from getting our faces wrecked were norms, that's it
They could have, and they wanted to, but there's a strong norm against a) swinging first and b) attacking a woman
So they didn't

Society functions the way it does not because of fear but because of social norms that say hey, don't shit in the road or throw bricks at cars
No one's physically stopping you, we've all just agreed not to
Some norms are good. Some norms are bad. All norms are powerful

So one pretty fundamental norm of American government is you don't overthrow it by force and establish a fascist one-party state
You might say it's a keystone
Violations of that norm are dangerous, it establishes a bad precedent. It can't be tolerated

So Trump needs to be impeached and removes and prosecuted within an inch of his disgusting life because otherwise insurrection goes from "unthinkable" to "hey, worth a shot, what's the worst that could happen?"
(when reinforcing the norm of "don't do an insurrection" we also have to be careful not to establish new and ugly authoritarian norms, the way Biden's domestic terrorism bill probably will. It's a thin tightrope, I don't think we're going to be able to walk it, fingers crossed)
