Washington Football Team President Jason Wright tells @granthpaulsen and @funnydanny that based on fan reaction to the team rebrand, its been made definitive that "burgundy and gold should never change, period. That is a core aspect of the identity of this team."
Wright adds that "something random would land poorly. We need something that's connected to the history of the club or to the area or to something else that is meaningful to the fan base already... so taking some random-ass bird mascot doesn't feel like the right approach."
Wright says fans have conveyed the importance of the WFT operating professionally. "Don't be some rinky-dink operation."
He says fans have stated that they want "a sense of aggression, of boldness, of edginess" from the organization on and off the field.

In terms of new names, Wright says "everything is in play... We haven't cut anything down mainly because we need to listen a whole lot more before we cut anything down."
Wright reiterates they'll have the interim name through 2021.
A proper launch "is incredibly important. There's literally no way to do that before next season."
"While we might have it before next season, we'll announce it at exactly the right time when all that's buttoned up."
