Neal Kirby's powerful comments about Captain America got me thinking about Steve Rogers. The Cap I know, and wrote, doesn't represent the American reality—he represents the American dream: the highest, the best, in us. Truth, integrity, compassion.
Steve is a truly decent man, who embraces all Americans—of every color, religion, sexual orientation—and I tried to reflect that in my stories. During my run, Steve's girlfriend was Jewish and his two best friends were a Black man, the Falcon, and a gay man, Arnie Roth.
