Every time I see "75 million Americans voted for ..." used to defend Trump/extreme right-wing policy I think about my family members who told me they voted for the Republican party and they do not support Trump.
Americans are poisoned by the idea that they vote for a party and not for a person. American politics is equally poisoned with the idea that all votes for a person must be equally supportive of everything the party does.
I am forever disappointed that there's not more pushback on the "X million Americans voted for ..." rhetoric. Journalists should call it into question when it emerges, both for the person making the argument and the people listening to it.
There was not a referendum on election integrity. The presidential election was not, in fact, a referendum on election integrity. We don't have those kinds of referendums in America. Politicians should be held accountable for claiming otherwise.
