I didn’t clap last year.
I’m not clapping now.
Claps don’t work.
I care.
Always.
That’s why I stay home.
Why I wear a mask.
Why I keep a distance.
Why I would not vote Conservative.
And why I think higher earners like me should pay more tax.*
I’m not clapping now.
Claps don’t work.
I care.
Always.

* The tax point is not just about the NHS, but also about it. Ultimately, it is about the kind of society I want to live in and how I believe we can get there. Obviously, tax for higher earners isn’t the only aspect to that—I generally support a Scandinavian-type model.
As an aside: I think it’s misjudged to argue people aren’t prepared to pay more tax. People can be convinced, but they need to be able to understand why it’d be worth it. What I am not prepared to accept is my tax contributions being shovelled into the coffers of Tory donors etc.
