The #Bears could've come out yesterday & simply said, "the record isn't acceptable, & Ryan's failed as a GM, but not only do we stand by him & Matt as people, we're staying the course for the following reasons: (insert reasons here)."
The reasons could've been referential to the Steelers sticking w/ a young GM and HC & how that's paid off for them. They could've lauded recent draft successes or bold trades/etc. They could've honestly done anything, ANYTHING better than what they did.
Instead it exposed George & Ted as the unqualified & disorganized people they are from a football standpoint, pissed off every fan & media rep, & made Pace & Nagy look like toothless saps in the process.
Now George has to do these 10-minute bullshit damage control radio calls this afternoon where I'm sure he'll field zero questions & simply course-correct where he felt the team misrepresented themselves on Weds. Meanwhile Ted Phillips has crawled back into his dank spider lair.
Everything I've heard about Ryan Pace from media folks who have talked w/ him informally, & they usually praise his intelligence & personality. Yet anytime he's on a press call or conference, Pace becomes an unrelatably cold & dim-witted yes man who struggles to make cereal.
Nobody looked worse than Phillips. George was George - a clumsy, derpy great-uncle who means well. Phillips came off like a confrontational ego-driven asshole who hates being questioned, doesn't want to be exposed to the media, & wants anyone not in the building to fuck off.
Unless you're Olin Kreutz, who back in '09 told Ted Phillips what time it was, & it probably got him black listed from the building. I'd be surprised if Ted Phillips ever fields a question from the Chicago media again as #Bears president.
Anyway, the #Bears are a slipshod organization that don't deserve any respect, don't merit the benefit of the doubt in making any football decisions, & have failed their fanbase with enthusiasm for the better part of 50 years. 50. Years. Jesus Christ.
