Here it is! The Dante for Smash megathread, including why he should be in Smash, what Devil May Cry is, and more.
Firstly: What exactly is Devil May Cry?
Devil May Cry is a dark-fantasy action and hack 'n slash game. The first installment released back in 2001 and was one of the first games of it's kind. It pioneered an revolutionized the 3D hack 'n slash genre. The most recent installment, Devil May Cry 5, released on
March 8th, 2019. In less than a month, the game had surpassed over 2 million units sold. As of now, Devil May Cry 5 sits at 4 million sales.
In DMC5, you play as one of three characters: Dante, Nero, or V. Your main objective is to take down the mighty Urizen, who's taken over the city and unleashed a demon army.
You have to hack, slash, and beat your way through all these demons to make your way to Urizen.
The next, and most important part: What would Dante's moveset be?
Dante has lots of items and skills he can pull from the Devil May Cry series. The most notable are his sword, Rebellion, his two pistols, Ebony and Ivory, his flaming fists, Balrog, and awakening his inner devil, Devil Trigger.
Dante's neutral special would be his standard shot. When pressed, Dante would fire out one of his pistols. When pressed repeatedly, he'd fire out of them rapidly.
When the B button is held down, a red aura appears around Dante's hands. Once fully charged, his hands will glow red. For the next few shots, they'll be superpowered.
Dante's side special would be 'round trip.' Dante charges Rebellion up, then hurls it toward the enemy. It spins in place, hitting the enemy multiple times.
Dante's up special would be 'air trick.' Dante summons a red aura around him that makes him disappear for a split second before he appears higher and closer to the enemy.
Dante's down special transforms him into his Devil Trigger state. Near his HUD is a gauge called his Devil Trigger gauge the more you do stuff like at tack, dodge, taunt, etc. When it reaches a certain point, by pressing down special you can use it to transform into Devil Trigger
enhances your attacks for a certain amount of time.
His final smash is SIN DEVIL TRIGGER. This is a way stronger, way more badass version of Devil Trigger. With this power he can defeat almost anything. For his final smash, he stabs himself to become SDT, then unleashes a flurry of attacks on the opponent before a finishing blow.
And there you have it. An iconic and revolutionary series mixed with a character that would have one of the most badass movesets? It's just a perfect recipe for an awesome fighter in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. Thanks for reading, and consider following for more Dante for Smash
