I want to warn/alert all California residents and @GavinNewsom about what @PGE4Me has done to my 90 year old mother in law.

Sit back, this is a tale. and it's still ongoing
MIL recently alerted us that she hadn't received a bill from PG&E. In 4 months. Yep, that's a problem and on her.

Let's now focus on what happened next.
About ten days ago my guy gets involved to try and get a payment in. They won't talk to him on the phone since he's not on the account. Finally, via automation, he figures out what the past due balance is: ~$240.
On January 5th, the Bill was paid via electronic bill pay from the bank. On January 8th the bill cleared the bank.

Yesterday, Jan 13, they call MIL to tell her they're on their way to disconnect the power. 90 yo woman alone in a pandemic.

This is when it gets disturbing.
So we go make a deposit.

Then they called today to say we owed more.

It gets worse. It’s all a scam.
The tactic is that they call and tell you your power is about to be cut off and you have to make a deposit with an X ours. Our natural skepticism was fooled because MIL brought the call to us and we were otherwise distracted
You’d think we have figured it out by the time it came to deposit money in a bitcoin machine but the panic over rode our good sense.
But part of the scam was she had stopped receiving statements. So we knew she was behind. And we didn’t know PGE was not turning off service in a pandemic.
Learn from us.

Tell your families.

If you get a scary call, hang up and call back a KNOWN number.
You can follow @MJB_SF.
