Normiemericans are mad about the Trump/Capitol situation, not because of what transpired or because the media told them to be, but because they’re being forced to contend with a new reality that many of the tapped in internet denizens have understood for years.
They elected Biden because they believed it would rewind time to 2010. They wear masks because it’s symbolic—it is a security blanket that, when clutched, reassures them that this reality will progress no further, and that ‘time’ will soon stop, reverse, and rewind to 2010.
The real ‘virus’ being spread is a new reality. The lethality, R0, and death counts of covid are immaterial—those are surface level problems that serve as barges to offload existential stress. The real fear is the future. The real fear is uncertainty.
The fear of the virus = fear of the progression of Time; of entering a new era, of confronting simmering structural problems that have begun to boil. The fearful, masked Normiemerican feels their understanding of existence slipping away, and they will do anything to prevent it.
This summer, the Normiemerican took the BLM vaccine. They thought they would be inoculated against instability in system if they took a knee, performed the rituals, put coins in the offertory. Things settled down. Time seemed ready to reverse back to 2010. They voted for Biden.
The Trump presidency was a spectacle. Normie Left loved to hate Trump because it was entertaining, and Normie Right loved to love Trump because it was entertaining. They do not understand anything outside the context of their personal comfort. The Capitol Incident disturbed them.
Normiemerica thought we were getting ready to reverse, back to 2010. We have the covid vaccine. We have our masks. We have Biden. We have been dutiful & pious in our supplication to George Floyd. But now, unease: The Capitol Incident is a new strain of the Virus of Time.
