May I say something? Non-influencer here. What I've been thinking:

"People don't know what they don't know."

That's not an excuse for bad theology, doctrine, or behavior. But it should inform HOW we engage with people.

There are people so steeped in White Supremacy, 1/11
Myth of the Lost Cause, and poor hermenutics that they couldn't find their butt with both hands and a mirror.

I was one of them.

Its really easy to dunk on their foolishness. And it is evident we have witnessed a fundamental failure of discipleship by the church. 2/11
The word "cult" has been thrown around a lot lately. It's not misplaced. But when was the last time you heard of someone leaving a cult because you told them "You're in a cult".

It takes more. 3/11
It takes, I believe fundamentally understanding the Enemy, and ultimately it isn't just about the people who are deceived. There is a spiritual battle going on here. I think that's fair to say.

White Supremacy is demonic. Plain & simple. So if it & its methodology is satanic 4/
we are going to have to tear it down with the tools God has provided.

The goal is not to wreck other image bearers, own the libs, or what have you. It's to liberate people in bondage. Ultimately its about the glory of God filling the earth.

Cults are good at bondage. 5/ 11
So I propose the conversations we have (and the tactics we employ) should look a bit different than our modus operandi.

It's going to cost us more than a tweet, a good thread, and more than an article to link to. It's going to cost you time in prayer / fasting, 6/11
carrying your cross, and it is going to cost you money too. Its going to cost you "love" (think Col. 3:14).

This to me is what being salt, leaven, and light looks like. It's how the Kingdom comes. There are many practical ways to do this. 7/11
I say all that to say this.

I was "rescued" from the cult in which I was steeped, that embraced God (but tokenized Jesus) by someone taking the time with me (offline), loving me, listening to me, helping me connect the dots, and even going to far as to show me my complicity. 8/
That "complicity part" is likely the hardest. We don't like being wrong or having sin pointed out. And honestly, we know some people are not going to tolerate it. They love their idols way too much for the power they bring them.
9/11
Just as it is God's loving-kindness that brings us to repentance... Well, I think you get where I'm going. At least I hope you do. 10/11
We need to teach people HOW to learn. But not just that. We need to teach people how to love. And they learn by what the see demonstrated. For that, I refer us back to Jesus, the disciple-maker. Thanks for reading. 11/11
