Absolutely agree w/ @Western_Center. Golden State Stimulus should provide much more to undocumented Californians

@kimbojorque Families that include undocumented Californians were excluded from THOUSANDS of $s in federal economic relief payments. See my table in the next tweet https://twitter.com/sacbee_news/status/1349723769410113536
For example, a family of four where both parents filed taxes with ITINs missed out on $5,800 from the federal relief approved in March and December 2020.
Yes, the most recent economic relief bill allowed certain married couples where one spouse has a SSN and the other has an ITIN to get the rebates.

But this benefits a very small share of families & individuals filing with ITINs

And these families are denied the full rebate
Families that include undocumented Californians also missed out on up to $6,557 from the federal EITC last year and will miss out on up to $6,660 from the credit this year.

And undocumented Californians who've lost work were shut out of thousands of $s in unemployment benefits
These exclusions make it much harder for undocumented Californians to pay for basics like food & rent during the recession

Even before the downturn 1 in 4 children of immigrants in working families lived in poverty – more than 2x share of other kids

No one should have to struggle to put food on the table or pay the rent, especially during a pandemic

And with the right policy choices and sufficient investments, no one has to
